The parishioners of St. Hilda’s Anglican Church are keenly interested in worship music and congregational singing is encouraged. We sing a mixture of traditional and contemporary hymns, drawing from hymnals Sing a New Creation (2022), Common Praise (1998), Songs for a Gospel People (1987) and other sources, such as the Taizé Community. St. Hilda’s is home to the only pipe organ on the lower Sunshine Coast: Canadian-made Casavant Frères Opus 3272. The organ and Yamaha C7 grand piano are much appreciated, as are the excellent acoustics in the church, and St. Hilda’s is a preferred venue for choral concerts.
St. Hilda’s SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) mixed-voice choir supports the 10:00 am Sunday worship service from September through June, with practices every Thursday afternoon. If you love to sing and enjoy the company of a fun group of people, please speak to our music director about joining our choir.
Music Arising! St. Hilda’s Recital Series presents semi-annual concerts of local and regional musicians in different genres and occasionally collaborates with other arts organizations like the Sechelt Arts Festival and the BCRMTA (British Columbia Registered Music Teachers’ Association) Young Artist Tour.
Katherine Hume, B.Mus, M.Mus, RMT is the Music Director at St. Hilda’s Anglican Church where she plays piano, pipe organ, flute, conducts the choir and began the Music Arising! St. Hilda’s Recital Series. She is a graduate of McGill University (Montréal, QC), Conservatoire Neuchâtelois (La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland) and Trinity College of Music (London, UK).
