Choral Evensong: Sunday March 19 at 5:00 pm at St. Hilda’s.
This year we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the death of Herbert Howells. A prolific British organist and composer, he is best known for his evening canticle settings (songs of Mary and Simeon from the Gospel of Luke), most of which he wrote for specific churches (and were subsequently named after them). Vespersong will be presenting one of his lesser-known, unnamed canticles from 1941.
We will also feature an excerpt from J.S. Bach's famous Mass in B minor and music by Canadian composer Kathryn Rose. Come enjoy a time of contemplation and reflection, aided by the sounds of choral music spanning 450 years amongst the peace of a calming afternoon liturgy.
