For thousands of years Indigenous people have walked in this land, on their own (unceded) traditional territory. Their relationship with the land is at the centre of their lives. We acknowledge the Coast Salish People of the shíshálh First Nation, past, present, and emerging leaders and their stewardship of this land (swiya) throughout the ages.
We believe it is important that we learn the history and legacy of Indian Residential Schools and live out the Anglican Church's and Canada's apology through living in right relationship with our indigenous neighbours. Here are some ways how we encourage parishioners and our friends on Sunshine Coast to engage:
Join Terry Coyote Aleck, the Indigenous Teacher in Residence at St. Hilda’s, for a Drumming Circle. This is a wonderful time of rhythm, song, and story. The Drumming Circle happens on the fourth Sunday of each Month, at 4pm.
Come alone, or bring a friend. This is a great opportunity to connect for people of all ages. Children welcome.
Join us at St. Hilda’s, at 5838 Barnacle Street, or call us at (604) 885-5019 for more information.
