St. Hilda’s Social Justice Umbrella endorses the support of Bill C -262 and campaigned to have our MP Pamela Goldsmith-Jones to vote in favour of its second reading on December 5.

Breaking News

Amazing news friends! Minister of Justice Jody Wilson-Raybould announced last night that the Government of Canada is supporting Bill C-262, An Act to Ensure that the Laws of Canada are in Harmony with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (see below for public statement).
This is incredibly encouraging... BUT don’t stop raising your voices and writing to MPs. Until the actual vote happens, and the Government stands in the House in support of 262, we’ve got to keep up the loving pressure!!

Debate at second reading is now scheduled for December 5, 2017 in the House of Commons.

We need to reinforce with each MP how important their support is (knowing that many of them probably don’t know a tonne about UNDRIP or C-262). For information documents please visit www.adoptandimplement.com.

From Minister Wilson-Raybould: “With the direction and leadership of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, our government will support Bill C-262. The Bill acknowledges the application of the UN Declaration in Canada, and calls for the alignment of the laws of Canada with the UN Declaration.”
